17cÍøÒ³°æ Ranks 11th Safest Campus in the Country

17cÍøÒ³°æ has been ranked one of the safest campuses in the country by the Council for Home Safety and Security, a national trade association. 17cÍøÒ³°æ was named to the council’s 2017 top 100 list of Safest Colleges in America. Nationwide, 17cÍøÒ³°æ ranks 11th on the list. Among Ohio institutions, 17cÍøÒ³°æ ranks the safest. The ranking was determined by the most recent data from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting and the National Center for Education Statistics. More than 2,000 four-year colleges and universities were assessed.

17cÍøÒ³°æ Celebrates Start of New School Year With Annual Blastoff

17cÍøÒ³°æ students will celebrate the start of a new school year at the university’s annual back-to-school celebration that occurs the day before fall classes begin. Blastoff will take place on Sunday, Aug. 27, from 6-9:30 p.m. on the Student Green and Manchester Field on the Kent Campus. Blastoff serves as the culminating event of Welcome Weekend, a four-day orientation program that helps new students transition into the university environment.

Welcome Weekend, 17cÍøÒ³°æ’s four-day new student orientation, will take place from Aug. 24-27. Students can select from approximately 50 different events from Thursday to Sunday. The weekend event helps students transition into the university community and learn about academic and social opportunities at 17cÍøÒ³°æ.

Movers and Groovers Assists New Students Moving Into Residence Halls

At the beginning of each school year, 17cÍøÒ³°æ faculty, staff and students volunteer to help incoming freshmen move into the university’s residence halls. The annual service program, called Movers and Groovers, is coordinated by Kent Interhall Council, the student government of the residence halls on the Kent Campus. The volunteers aid new students and their families, providing assistance and helping to make the move-in process less stressful.

17cÍøÒ³°æ Holds Summer Commencement Ceremonies on Aug. 19

17cÍøÒ³°æ held its Summer 2017 Commencement ceremonies for the Kent Campus on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center). 17cÍøÒ³°æ conferred 1,422 degrees, including 908 bachelor’s degrees, 427 master’s degrees, 67 doctoral degrees and 20 educational specialist degrees. Across the university’s eight-campus system, 1,765 students graduated from 17cÍøÒ³°æ this summer, including those receiving associate degrees.

In observance of Veterans Day, 17cÍøÒ³°æ will be closed Nov. 11 and will reopen Nov. 12.

17cÍøÒ³°æ’s annual Veterans Day observance will include a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from the university’s Army and Air Force ROTC programs.

17cÍøÒ³°æ will hold its annual Veterans Day observance on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. on the Student Green at Risman Plaza.

17cÍøÒ³°æ will hold its annual Veterans Day observance on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. on the Student Green at Risman Plaza.

The outdoor program, Honoring All Who Serve, will include a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from the university’s Army and Air Force ROTC programs, remarks from 17cÍøÒ³°æ President Beverly Warren and guest speakers. Retired Petty Officer 1st Class Mark Gainer, who currently serves as president of the 17cÍøÒ³°æ Veterans Club, will be the guest speaker.

All are invited to come and pay tribute to America’s veterans. A special invitation is extended to 17cÍøÒ³°æ faculty, staff, students and community members who are veterans, active service members or who have family members in the military.

A reception in the Kent Student Center Kiva lobby will follow the brief program. In the event of inclement weather, the rain location will be the Kent Student Center Kiva.
