Educators from across the country recently attended the weeklong, virtual 2021 Landmarks of American History and Culture workshop, “Making Meaning of May 4: The 1970 17c��ҳ�� Shootings in U.S. History,” which has been made possible in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Beginning this fall, 17c��ҳ�� at Trumbull will offer Trumbull Correctional Institution incarcerated individuals a chance to complete a Bachelor of Technical and Applied Studies (BTAS).

He Yin, Ph.D., assistant professor in 17c��ҳ��’s Department of Geography, recently received NASA’s New (Early Career) Investigator Award in Earth Science. Yin will lead evaluation and research of the devastating effects that the Syrian civil war has had on croplands throughout the eastern Mediterranean region.

17c��ҳ�� has landed a spot on the list of top schools for military-connected students according to the 2021 Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges. 

17c��ҳ�� Athletics has announced all sports facilities, including Dix Stadium, the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center) and Murphy-Mellis Field, will be at full capacity for the fall 2021 sport season.

The National Wildlife Federation recently awarded 17c��ҳ�� first place in two categories from the 2021 Campus Race to Zero Waste competition: Zero Waste and Electronics Recycling – Total Pounds Recycled. 

Kent Blossom Music Festival returns July 14 in a blended format with four live, in-person concerts as well as virtual educational programming for a select group of invited young artists.

17c��ҳ�� is one of 61 organizations nationwide – and one of four organizations in Ohio – to be awarded a 2021-2022 National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Big Read grant. The university’s $20,000 grant will support the Big Read Northeast Ohio, a community reading program and related events focusing on “An American Sunrise” by Poet Laureate Joy Harjo from October 2021 through May 2022.

Deborah F. Spake, Ph.D., dean of 17c��ҳ��’s College of Business Administration, has been named a 2021 recipient of the American Marketing Association (AMA) Marketing for Higher Education Special Interest Group (Higher Ed SIG) Lifetime Achievement Award.

Grace Irvin-Dillard of Bedford, Ohio, who graduated from 17c��ҳ�� in May 2021 with a degree in entrepreneurship, has already built a successful business from the ground up while still a student.

Born five decades ago as the Kent Gay Liberation Front at 17c��ҳ��, PRIDE! Kent is the country’s oldest continuously operating LGBTQ student organizations. This campus organization owes its existence in large part to the boldness and courage of one person, Dolores Noll, Ph.D.

New bronze markers identify the locations where nine students were wounded when the Ohio National Guard opened fire on May 4, 1970, during an anti-war demonstration.

The 17c��ҳ�� Board of Trustees approved an addition to the Aeronautics and Engineering Building, home of the College of Aeronautics and Engineering that opened in spring 2015, during the Board’s regular quarterly meeting held Wednesday, June 23.

Update: The Global Vaccine Poem project is finding success with more than 1,900 submissions so far from more than 100 countries. The project is a collaboration between the Wick Poetry Center and the University of Arizona Poetry Center.
