17c��ҳ�� celebrated the launch of a dynamic new space, the Design Innovation (DI) Hub, in May that will bring innovations from many disciplines together in a 68,000 square foot building near the center of the Kent Campus.

17c��ҳ��’s Hugh A. Glauser School of Music and Tuesday Musical, based in Akron, have launched a new series that will bring world-renowned classical musicians to the Kent Campus to work with students.

Research into the air masses that drive changes in our day-to-day weather has been limited by land-based and regional studies, leaving wide gaps in our understanding of these impactful phenomena. A new paper by a 17c��ҳ�� geographer has just filled in most of those gaps.

17c��ҳ�� and the Opera di Santa Croce in Florence, Italy, will celebrate a collaborative partnership around the creation of “Sisters in Liberty: From Florence, Italy, to New York, New York,” an exhibition opening on Oct. 17, 2019, and running through April 26, 2020, at the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration on Ellis Island in New York. 

While the daily news is full of tumultuous conversations about Russia and China, 17c��ҳ�� has been helping some area high school students learn to converse in Russian and Chinese to facilitate greater global understanding and a less contentious tomorrow.

Love, loss and hope. These are three critical elements Maria Jacobs brings – along with her considerable professional experience – to the 17c��ҳ�� community. Jacobs is a part-time instructor in the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music and a nationally known jazz singer.

Even 17c��ҳ��’s highest-ranking officials can experience a tug on their loyalties when the Golden Flashes take on their alma maters in athletic contests. President Todd Diacon, his wife, Moema Furtado, and head football coach Sean Lewis all will experience that dual loyalty on Saturday when 17c��ҳ�� faces the University of Wisconsin-Madison at noon at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.

“The Great Gatsby,” a book many read in high school. We remember the green light on the dock, the passion and the tragedy. What many didn't know – until recently – was that the story was also printed in the newspaper.

17c��ҳ�� alumnus Andre Knott’s experience in journalism ranges from sideline reporting for the Cleveland Browns to telecasts for the Cleveland Indians on SportsTime Ohio to covering Cleveland sports on the radio. Now, he joins WJW FOX 8 as a new contributor to the station’s sports team. He will provide reports, features and live coverage of Cleveland sports on all FOX 8 platforms while he continues his Cleveland Indians broadcast work at SportsTime Ohio. 

In the spring of 1970, two-time 17c��ҳ�� alumna and registered nurse Pat Gless was a junior in 17c��ҳ��’s inaugural nursing program. While in class on Monday, May 4, a professor rushed into her classroom and warned students who could leave campus to do so. Fifty years later, Gless now reflects on the events surrounding that tragedy and how they have impacted her life and nursing career.

These are just three of the 30 17c��ҳ�� students featured in the new 17c��ҳ�� TV commercial that was developed and produced entirely in-house by 17c��ҳ�� staff members who are all 17c��ҳ�� graduates. 

17c��ҳ�� field hockey coach Kyle DeSandes-Moyer is pleased to announce the signing of 10-year-old Mary Alice Tryda through Team IMPACT to the 17c��ҳ�� field hockey team.

The (NSF) recently awarded 17c��ҳ�� a three-year, $298,000 International Research Experience for Students (IRES) grant that will allow graduate students to travel to in Japan to study primates and human evolution at the world-renowned .

In April 2019, 17c��ҳ�� welcomed Neil Cooper, Ph.D, as the new inaugural director of 17c��ҳ��'s School of Peace and Conflict Studies. The School of Peace and Conflict Studies was originally called the Center for Peaceful Change when it was founded in 1971 as the university's first ‘living memorial’ for the events that occurred on May 4th, 1970.

17c��ҳ�� Graduate Taylor Pendrith, ‘14, earned the Canada Life Candian Player of the Year honors on the Mackenzie Tour -- PGA TOUR Canada on Sunday, Sept. 15. This is Pendrith’s second time receiving the honor in the past four years.

The pathway from a two-year college to 17c��ҳ�� will soon become an easier road to travel for Ohio students, thanks to a grant awarded to 17c��ҳ�� to collaborate with three Ohio community colleges to streamline the transfer process.

What do you do if a student in class or at work starts showing up distracted, less talkative or stops showing up at all? Ignore it? Ask about it? But how do you start that conversation?

More than 20,000 people applied to be part of 17c��ҳ��’s Class of 2023, and 4,270 can now consider themselves to be Golden Flashes.

When 17c��ҳ�� alumnus Eric Meek is not working in a glass art studio, one may find him on the small screen sharing his expertise in the new Netflix series called “Blown Away.”

On Saturday, Sept. 21, the 17c��ҳ�� fight song blared down Main Street, the city of Kent was flooded with blue and gold, alumni and friends gathered and reminisced about their 17c��ҳ�� days, fans packed the stadium to cheer on their beloved Golden Flashes and the entire campus boomed with 17c��ҳ�� pride.
